Showing PDF content on a web page
Linking to a PDF makes visitors download and open a separate file, which is clumsy on phones. Showing the key pages as images keeps people on the page. WebP is a good fit: text and graphics stay crisp at quality 85 while files are usually a fraction of the equivalent PNG.
Keep the PDF linked as well for people who want to print or search it, and put the important text in the page itself too, since text inside an image is invisible to search engines and screen readers.
Resolution for the web
An A4 page at 110 DPI is roughly 910 × 1290 pixels, a comfortable size for a content column. Choose 150 for pages people will zoom into, such as a menu with small print.
