- Choose how to fill the empty space: a solid colour, a blurred copy of the photo, or transparency.
- Optionally enter an output size, such as 1080.

Four ways to get a square
Colour adds plain bars in the colour you choose. White suits product photos and marketplace listings, which often ask for a white background anyway.
Blurred fills the bars with a soft, enlarged copy of the photo itself. It is the look you see on many social posts, and it keeps the frame full without distracting from the subject.
Transparent leaves the extra space empty. Choose PNG or WebP as the output, otherwise it will be filled with white.
Crop instead takes the largest centred square from the image. Nothing is added, but the edges of a wide or tall photo are lost. For control over which part to keep, use the crop tool with the 1:1 ratio.
Why sites want squares
Profile pictures, app icons, album covers and many online shop grids display images as squares. If you upload a rectangle, the site crops it for you, usually from the centre, and often clips someone's head or a product's edge. Squaring it yourself means you decide what is shown.

What size should a square image be?
1080 × 1080 px is widely used for social media. Marketplaces often recommend 1000 to 2000 px. Profile photos rarely need more than 800 px.
Can I get a transparent border?
Yes. Choose Transparent and save as PNG or WebP.
